In 2005 for the first time in Indonesian political history, a political party signed an agreement with a public survey and political consultancy organization (the Indonesian Survey Institute or Lingkarang Survei Indonesia/LSI Denny JA) to select 200 candidates to run in the first direct-election for regional leadership positions (pilkada).

Since that time, political parties in Indonesia have worked closely with survey organisations.

About the author

Denny Januar Ali known as Denny JA (born in Palembang, South Sumatra on 4 January 1963) is an intellectual entrepreneur. He made breakthroughs in the academic, political, social media, literature and cultural worlds in Indonesia.

Denny JA was awarded by TIME magazine in 2015 as on of 30 most influential people in the Internet. Included in the list are the US President Barack Obama, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and world celebrities such as Shakira, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian. the voting conducted by TIME magazine showed Denny JA holds the first position.

In 2014, he was awarded by Twitter inc as first runner up for The World Golden Tweet 2014 after Ellen DeGeneres selfie with Hollywood actresses and Oscar premier.

He also received an award as the first and the only political consultant in the world helping and winning presidential election there times in a row. In his case, the presidential elections he was involved with were in Indonesia in 2004, 2009, and 2014.

In the same year, he was chosen as one of 33 the most influential literature figures in Indonesia history by a team of eight (a team of prominent poets, critics and academicians). he was chosen along with Chairil Anwar, Pramudya Ananta Toer, Takdir Alisjahbana and Rendra. The selection was documented in a 777-pages book published by Gramedia for PDS HB Jassin.

He was chosen because he introduces the new genre essay poem in 2012. Since then until 2015 there are approximately 30 essay poem books published, written by more than 100 intellectuals and poets from all over Indonesia.

Denny JA is also known as social activist promoting and campaigning Indonesia with No-Discrimination through various cultural media: poem, photographs, paintings, songs and movies. Funding this movement with his own money after he becomes a successful businessman.
