But unlike _The Quiet Place_ this book was not a romp. And unlike _The Quiet Place_ this book was more typical of Peter David's approach to the New Frontier novels in that it was chock full of promiscuity, fornication, and deviant life styles. None of the characters are sympathetic, no, not one. You want to feel for the Captain as he seeks to create some sort of relationship with his son, but you end up not feeling for him after all.
In the end, all there is is the plot and the hook for the next volume. Sigh! Come on, Peter, you've proven you can do better than this. Come on, editors, Peter's proven he can do better than this.
