During his work with different companies, Prof. Falconi realized the need for a text detailing the process of management of routine operation. So he started working on this book with one objective in mind: to provide an easy-to-understand guide for any person to improve his or her management duty. From this effort came about a book in which some modern communication techniques were applied, such as the intensive use of diagrams, itemization, and keywords. This book, which reads quite easily, is applicable to the most diverse areas of the management of production, service, and maintenance, and has certainly been used to improve the results of many companies and governments all over the world.

Vicente Falconi was born in 1940. He graduated in Engineering from Minas Gerais Federal University (UFMG) in 1963 and earned an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines (USA) in 1968 and 1971. He was a professor at UFMG from 1964 to 1992, and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus by that university. Falconi worked for many years with Japanese representatives from JUSE (Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers) in Brazilian companies. He co-founded and is currently partner and council member of FALCONI Consultores de Resultado. In 2001, he joined both the Crisis Management Chamber and the Energy Crisis Management Committee. He sat on the board of several major companies and is board member of AmBev since 1997. Falconi published six books on Management, which have sold over 1 million copies. He received several honors from the Brazilian government (the prestigious Order of Rio Branco medal), the state government of Minas Gerais and the municipal government of Belo Horizonte. He was the only Latin American included among the "21 voices of the 21st century" listed by the American Society for Quality.
