I would never read something like this... how do you go through life not knowing or loving God?

Hitchens was championed by atheists yes but he was one of the finest champions of the personal liberties of man. The biggest target of his animus was religion but he viewed religion as a tyranny over the mind. No one in our generation was as well read or as brilliant or sharp a debator as this man. He could stay up all night drinking scotch and discuss Euripides with college professors and teach them a few things then hold an review on Dickens the next morning before literary critics. He was the best.

About the author
Christopher Hitchens (1949-2011) was a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and a columnist for Slate. He was the author of numerous books, including works on Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, George Orwell, Mother Teresa, Henry Kissinger and Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as his international bestseller and National Book Award nominee, god Is Not Great. His memoir, Hitch-22, which was a Sunday Times bestseller, was nominated for the Orwell Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His last book, Mortality, was published in 2012 by Atlantic Books.
