About this ebook

In a decree issued in March 884, King Karlomannus convenes with bishops, abbots, and nobles at the palace in Vernis to address the rampant issues of theft and moral decay affecting society. He expresses concern over the disregard for sacred laws against robbery and the implications of such actions on divine justice. The king calls for the renewal of previous laws, advocating for peace in the palace and strict penalties for thieves, including restitution and public penance. The decree emphasizes the need for unity, respect for property, and the moral obligation to protect the less fortunate.
