About the author

C. William Hanson III, MD, is section chief of critical care medicine and medical director of the surgical intensive care unit and telemedicine at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He specializes in cardiac anesthesia and is a contributor on projects to determine whether pneumonias and other pathological intra- and extra-pulmonary processes can be detected by exhaled breath analysis.
