This textbook is designed with the aim of enhancing reading skills. With a basic understanding of consonants, vowels, and final consonants, anyone can read syllables. However, when two or more syllables come together to form a word, the pronunciation of the syllables changes depending on the state (consonants, vowels) of the following word. For example, '닭고기' (chicken) is pronounced as '닥꼬기,' and '국밥' is pronounced as '국빱.' In other words, when writing, you write '닭고기,' but when reading, you read it as '닥꼬기.' This is because it is regulated to pronounce ㄺ or ㄱ followed by ㄱ,ㄷ,ㅂ,ㅅ,ㅈ as aspirated sounds (ㄲ,ㄸ,ㅃ,ㅆ,ㅉ). Due to such differences between written Korean and spoken Korean, learners need to first understand the original pronunciation, then learn the pronunciation rules, and finally, experience how and why the original pronunciation changes.
