Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Rajk ot, Kathiawad in Gujarat. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was the Diwan of Rajkot. He was very a honest and religious minded person. His mother, Putli Bai, was also a pious lady of refined sensibilities. She never took her meals without performing her prayers. His parents greatly influenced Gandhiji.
