For me, the first half if the story went on a little too long, and it began to be revelatory to me only in the second half. By this I mean I don't think so long was needed to establish the character and context of Dellarobia. The scenes between her and Hester are exquisite however. Then I think there is a rushing of the final parts of the story. But overall I loved it.

It's not preachy at all, but a beautiful study of human nature in the face of change...what happens when your backwoods-y farm is suddenly taken over by climate confused migratory butterflies? How will a small town react?
