About this ebook

Austin hates to think that Kat had tapped into his inner psyche and had pulled out the one job he both wants yet is terrified to do. He’d walked away—or maybe had been chased away from Rox. He is no longer sure; he only knows that he needs closure on a marriage that had been heaven, until it turned to hell. And now the same family he’d married into had gotten, then lost, a War Dog. And, sure enough, Kat had found out about his entanglement, asking him point-blank if it was time to get his life together.

Rox had sent Austin away in the red heat of temper, and he’d gone, as in gone and never to return. Now here he is, sitting in her kitchen as if they’d never had such a tumultuous past. Finding out he’d returned for the missing War Dog and not for her bit hard. Still, she’d called in about Cowboy, the missing dog, but hadn’t expected them to send Austin. It’s as if the gods weren’t done ruining her life.

Finding the missing War Dog and sorting out the other unsettling issues on the ranch Austin had fallen in love with years ago isn’t going to be easy—particularly with Rox at his side—but he knows he is fighting for more than just peace and justice. He is fighting for his—their—future. One that, deep down, he never truly let go of.

Another delightful story in Dale Mayer's "K9 Files" series. Kat had assured Austin that it was a good idea, Austin wasn't convinced, but he capitulated and took the job anyway. Kat and Badger had yet another war dog that had gone off the radar, this one vanished in Texas and devious Kat knew that the owner of the war dog, Cowboy, was non other than Austin's wife Rox, they had been separated for five years but neither of them had moved on, could Kat's magic work again ? All was not well at Rox's

You had me a K-9, this series is always a winner. It's Austins turn to search for a missing War Dog, but in his cases it's at his in-laws' ranch where his wife is. Talk about a lot on his plate. Dysfunctional family time for sure, with stepparent/child and a few surprises. I knew who the main perp was before they appeared on the page, but there was no distraction I wanted to see how it all came together. Angst, anger, hope abound. Freely admit I am in love with Charlie (horse) and Cowboy (K-9).

I love the K9 Files. Prepare for warmth and challenges, past history and present reflections. A missing War Dog and revisiting family. It was a page turner as complications keep ensnarling Austin and his family. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

About the author

Dale Mayer is a USA Today bestselling author who writes for the young, the old and those in-between – no matter what the age. Some of her books are hot, some are sweet. Some will keep you up at night with a light on to keep the boogie man away and some you’ll want to cuddle close.

She’s long given up on trying to fit a specific genre. Instead she honors the stories that come to her – and some of them are crazy, break all the rules and cross multiple genres!

And that’s okay too.

There is one guarantee with each book – it will be a great read – each and every time.
