About this ebook

Soil-transmitted helminthiases and human schistosomiasis remain significant public health problems in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and South America. The WHO road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030 aims to eliminate both diseases as public health problems in all endemic countries and to eliminate transmission of human schistosomiasis in selected countries. Based on the recommendations of the WHO guideline: preventive chemotherapy to control soil-transmitted helminth infections in high-risk groups and the WHO guideline on control and elimination of human schistosomiasis, this manual aims to guide managers of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases control programmes towards the elimination of these diseases as public health problems, guided by evidence generated by effective monitoring and evaluation. It provides guidance on when to conduct an impact assessment survey, which indicators to collect, how to calculate them and interpret the results, and how to conduct the epidemiological survey.
