About this ebook

These ten stories by Anish Deb are akin to ten bullets. The string begins with a bullet and ends with a fight. And then?
“In the beginning there would be the revolver. I would take it. Then, only then, you. We would fire the weapon at our foreheads. First me. Then you. We would try to murder ourselves. On whom is the grace of God, he would survive. The other one’s brain and its juices would be on this floor, on this plastic bag. That would be the end of ‘The Divine Lottery’ ”.

Nona smiles wanly. Then he waits like a dead man, looking at the circling structure. Billu stops it. Billu unveils the two sharp revolvers. They look similar, but one has life while the other embeds death. Nona looks upward and seeks for the divine grace. He closes his eyes when they stumble on the image of the goddess Kali. The lean boy is crying then. He is delirious. Nona picks up one revolver. He places it on the right temple. The lean boy takes up another. He waits with a serpentine stillness. Nona closes his eyes and presses the trigger.
