Der Band untersucht die Konversion deutsch sozialisierter Frauen zu christlichen und islamischen Strömungen, die sich am Literalsinn der jeweiligen Heiligen Schrift orientieren und in der Gemeindestruktur ähneln, mithilfe qualitativer Methoden. Der Fokus liegt auf der Funktionalität der Konversion; diese entfaltet für die Konvertitinnen jeweils mehrere positive Folgen bzw. Funktionen nach Robert K. Merton. Einige sind religionsübergreifend ähnlich oder gleich, andere differieren aufgrund theologischer Unterschiede sowie des verschiedenen gesellschaftlichen standings der Religionen. Hinsichtlich der Konversionsforschung zum literalsinnorientierten Christentum in Deutschland bzw. Europa betritt die Arbeit weitgehend Neuland; anders als Islamkonversionen wurde dieses Phänomen bislang kaum analysiert. This volume analyzes the conversion of German women to Christian and Muslim movements which both follow a literal sense-orientated interpretation of their Holy scriptures and whose communities show many similarities, with qualitative methods. The focus of the work is the functionality of the conversion; the conversion developes a bunch of positive outcomes or "functions" (Robert K. Merton) for the female converts. Some of them are similar or equal in both religions, some different due to the theological differences and the distinct standing of both religions in German society. The analysis breaks new grounds regarding the research of conversion to literal sense-orientated Christian communities in Germany and Europe. Other than conversion to Islam, this phenomenon was scarcely analysed so far.

Dr. Amrei Sander ist Religionswissenschaftlerin und Soziologin und hat ihre akademische Ausbildung an der Universität Potsdam und später an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin absolviert. Sie forscht derzeit im Projekt »Science and Religion 2« an der Universität Leipzig.
