This is a beautiful story about life, family and art. Alison Goldberg has written a touching story about a young girl who wants to give Grandma a special gift. Grandma explains the significance of the Chai necklace that they both wear. The Hebrew word Chai means life, The word is made from the eight and the tenth letters of the Hebrew alphabet, so the number eighteen is considered lucky. Sophie decides to give her Grandmother a gift of Chai with artwork of 18 flowers.
About the author
ALISON GOLDBERG is a writer based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the author of I Love You for Miles and Miles. She also wrote the award-winning nonfiction picture book Bottle Tops, a biography of the Ghanaian artist El Anatsui. JESSE WHITE is an illustrator, author, and muralist who creates whimsical, wonder-filled work about imagination and adventure. Nature is her core throughline, a focus that comes from her childhood in rural North Carolina.
