About the author

Prof. Ashok K. Jain, Ph.D., F.L.S., F.B.S., F.E.B., F.I.A.Sc. F.B.N., F.A.B.I. is presently working as Hon. Director, S. K. Jain Institute of Ethnobiology & Professor of Botany at Jiwaji University, Gwalior (M.P). He is fellow of Linnean Society of London, Indian Botanical Society, Society of Ethnobotanists, Society of Bionaturalists, Indian Aerobiological Society and others. Dr. Jain has done extensive work on Ethnobotany, biodiversity of various regions of Madhya Pradesh, Sacred groves, Conservation of threatened taxa, Emergency food used by tribals, Floristics, Taxonomy etc. Over 15 research projects funded by ICMR, Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi; MPCST, Bhopal; MP State Biodiversity Board, Bhopal; BGCI, UK; Ministry of Culture; SD Conservation Biology Fund, USA etc. have been successfully conducted by him. Prof. Jain has guided 20 candidates for Ph.D degree & 25 for M.Phil. dissertations. He has authored/ edited five books and published over 100 research papers in various international & national journals. Prof. Jain has organized several seminars & Training Courses on ethnobotany. He is the recipient of V Puri Medal by Indian Botanical Society (2010) and J W Harshberger Medal by Society of Ethnobotanists (2012).
