About this ebook

This book examines historical trends in agriculture and rural development at the sub-national level in India, taking Andhra Pradesh as a case study. It investigates agrarian development before and after the green revolution, and explores the impact of major paradigm shifts in agricultural development policy, including globalization and liberalization. The book also explores the changes in land use pattern, input usage and the performance of allied sectors, and institutions over the past fifty years under different policy scenarios.

About the author

Dr A. Amarender Reddy is Principal Scientist of Agricultural Economics at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. He previously worked as Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management of the Government of India. He has published more than 60 research articles and four books, mainly related to agricultural and rural economics, and the monitoring and evaluation of government schemes.

Dr A. Suresh is Principal Scientist of Agricultural Economics at the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, India, having previously served as a faculty member at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He has also worked at the National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research, New Delhi and the Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Rajasthan. He has published more than 50 research articles on development issues in agriculture and allied sectors.

Dr K.J.S. Satyasai is General Manager of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, India, and is an agricultural economist. He served as Foreign Professor at Konkuk University, South Korea, and as a faculty member at the Banker’s Institute of Rural Development, India. He has over 70 publications to his credit.
