<p>Today, we see all over the world that the human mind has become terribly restless; no continent is an exception to this. In accordance with the nature, a human mind also is unable to tolerate the void created because of lack of faith, thoughts and values. The faiths that had been balancing the emotions and feelings so far have been eradicated or shattered. To fulfill the void people are becoming more and more passionate and inclining towards lust. The mental peace is replaced by physical pleasures with a wrong notion of satisfying the ‘self’. The apt picture of society portrayed in 1970 by the famous writer V. S. Khandekar in Adnyatachyta Mahadwarat stands to be true after almost half century. It compels the readers to take a pause and ponder over the reality.</p><p>''आजचं मानवी मन मग ते जगातल्या कोणत्याही भागातलं असो, एका विचित्र पोकळीत गुदमरून तडफडत आहे. निसर्गाप्रमाणं मनुष्याच्या मनालाही श्रद्धांची, मुल्यांची आणि विचारांची पोकळी सहन होत नाही. जुन्या भावनांना आधारभूत असलेल्या श्रद्धा उध्वस्त झाल्यामुळे माणूस आता अनिवार वासनांच्याद्वारे त्यांची उणीव भरून काढण्याचा प्रयत्न करीत आहे. आंतरिक शांतीची पोकळी इंद्रियसुखाच्या धुंदीन भरून काढता येईल, या कल्पनेन तो वासनातृप्तीच्या रोखणे धावत आहे....'' अशा पद्धतीने वि.स. खांडेकरांनी केलेली वर्तमान समाजमनाची चिकित्सा समजून घ्यायची तर या ' अज्ञाताच्या महाद्वारात ' पाऊल ठेवायलाच हवे. सन १९७० च्या दरम्यान हे वैचारिक लेखन पाव शतक उलटून गेल तरी आजही तंतोतंत लागू कस पडत याच आश्चर्य वाटत आणि विषादही !</p>
