Portia Welham lives in modern-day New York, but was born 200 years before on an island kingdom ruled by her father. Till one day Michael arrives in her world seriously injured and Portia realizes something is truly amiss on Welham Island. As she nurses him to health, it's also clear there's more to their relationship than they are willing to admit. Fighting a forbidden desire, she agrees to return, whereupon she's engaged to a prince who promises protection against a common enemy. But it might be too little too late to save the island. And she can no longer ignore what her heart wants.
