Dr. Alexandra Marxer has been working as a general practitioner (GP) since 2002 and specialized in long-term care and palliative care. In December 2024 as an author in spiritual medicine she published her first book entitled “Believe your body, Spiritual guide to health (with poems for your soul)". Dr. Marxer graduated from high school in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, in 1990 and went on to study medicine at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, where she obtained her doctorate in 1997. In the following six years, she worked in various hospitals in Zurich, including departments of anesthesiology, surgery and internal medicine as well as in a psychiatric clinic in eastern Switzerland. After passing her specialist examination in internal medicine with "summa cum laude", she opened her own general practice in 2002. In 2009 Dr. Marxer received the certificate of advanced studies in “ethical decision-making” and acquired certificates in “palliative medicine” and “long-term care” in the following years. Since 2008, she has been advising a nationwide institution for long-term care, which was the first nursing home association in Liechtenstein and Switzerland to receive the 'Quality in Palliative Care' label in 2018 under her medical expertise. As a GP she treats children, adolescents, adults as well as nursing and palliative care patients both in the facilities and at home. Together with two of her colleagues, she expanded the practice into a clinic with four doctors and ten employees by 2024, which is currently the largest primary care center in Liechtenstein. Dr. Alexandra Marxer was born and raised in Liechtenstein, which is the sixth smallest country in the world with around 40,000 inhabitants in 2024 and an area of 160 km2. This small country lies between Switzerland and Austria, in the heart of Europe. Dr. Marxer is married since 1996 and has two sons, born in 2004 and 2009.
