About this audiobook

‘Vivid and compelling’ Rosamund Lupton, bestselling author of Three Hours

A house stands alone in the woods.

Deep in the forests of Norway, Lexi finds a fresh start with Tom and his two young daughters, working as their new nanny.

The darkness creeps closer.

But Lexi is telling lies, and she’s not the only one. This family has a history – and this place has a past. Something was destroyed to build this house, and in the dark, dark woods, a menacing presence lurks.

Lexi must protect the children in her care – but protect them from what?

Atmospheric, gothic, spine-chilling, the new thriller from C.J Cooke will haunt you long after you turn the last page . . .

Lexi has led a miserable life, uncared for by anyone, used by her mother as a way to get weed, chucked out by her boyfriend following a suicide attempt, homeless, jobless and penniless, Lexi avails herself of her ex-boyfriend's prepaid railcard and takes a train to stay out of the rain. Whilst on the train Lexi overhears two women chatting and one of them, Sophie is telling her friend about this job she is applying for, to work as a nanny in Norway for six months. Sophie’s friend announces that she is pregnant and persuades Sophie not to apply as she wants her with her. A chance to take a picture of the application and Lexi starts a new life as Sophie the nanny! I loved this book, I couldn’t stop listening to it, yet when I reached the end, I was sad that I had finished it. I haven’t read any C. J. Cooke before but I will definitely be rectifying that omission as soon as possible. Very highly recommended particularly for fans of Laura Purcell and W. C. Ryan.
