About the author

Bear Heart (1918-2008), born in Okemah, Oklahoma, was a spiritual leader of the Muskogee-Creek Nation trained in the traditional ways of his tribe. Highly regarded as a healer and counselor, he was also a respected leader of the Native American Church and an ordained minister in the American Baptist Church. Larry Winters is a poet, novelist, playwright, combat Marine, group psychotherapist, wood artist, husband, and Black Peace Eagle. His memoir The Making and Unmaking of a Marine is about a child who is forged into a recruit for the Marines, his subsequent journey to war, and his return to Vietnam many years later.
