Martin R. DeHaan was born in Zeeland, Michigan. He graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and was the valedictorian of his graduating class at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1914. He established a successful medical practice in western Michigan. During an illness, he decided to give up medicine, subsequently enrolling at Western Theological Seminary. He began his radio program, the Radio Bible Class, in 1938, and became very successful at spreading his convictions about major Bible doctrines, providing clear, simple explanations. Without DeHaan's ever asking for financial assistance, his radio ministry grew to the point that it was broadcast on more than 600 stations around the world. DeHaan also wrote more than 25 books and many pamphlets, including Broken Things: Why We Suffer, The Second Coming of Jesus, and The Signs of the Times. He also edited and published Our Daily Bread, a popular monthly devotional guide. Martin DeHaan died in 1965.
