EDWARD J M D. LORD DUNSANY. PLUNKETT

Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron Dunsany (1878-1957), heir to an ancient Irish peerage was born and partly raised in England. Publishing over 90 book during his lifetime, he was the author of poems, short stories, plays, essays, and novels, of which The King of Elfland's Daughter is the best known. He had a habit of writing with a quill pen he made himself. In 1904 he married Lady Beatrice Child Villiers, who typed his manuscripts and furthered his writing. He saw military action in the Boer War, WWI and WWII, and several Irish insurgencies. Dunsany was a generous supporter of other writers. He was admired by many fantasy, science fiction and horror writers, including Peter S. Beagle, Jorge Luis Borges, Arthur C. Clarke, H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, J. R. R. Tolkien, Evangeline Walton, and Gene Wolfe.
