The Rev. Father Johann Tauler, O.P., was a German priest, theologian, and author of the fourteenth century. Born circa 1300 at Strasbourg, he received his education from the Dominicans of the city before visiting the Order's college at Cologne. A member of the Friends of God, he reportedly remained at his post and encouraged his fellow citizens when the Black Death struck his city of birth in 1348. He was famous for his sermons and also authored the classic Spiritual Conferences, a work on spiritual perfection. Father Tauler died on the fifteenth of June, 1361.
