Charles Koch

Charles G. Koch is chairman of the board and CEO of Koch Industries, Inc., roles he has held since 1967. During that time, Koch Industries has transformed into a dynamic and diverse group of companies employing 130,000 people worldwide with a presence in more than 70 countries. About half of Koch's employees are in the United States.Much of KII's success can be traced to Mr. Koch's interest in and commitment to scientific and social progress. This led to the development and implementation of the Market-Based Management® framework. MBM® enables any organization - including nonprofits - to succeed long term by benefiting others. Mr. Koch continues to develop the theories and expand the practice of MBM by working with employees, scholars, nonprofit leaders, government officials and other businesspeople. He has supported a wide variety of academic, community and public policy initiatives for more than 55 years, with a special focus on principles and policies that enable people to improve their lives. This interest led him to found or help build organizations such as Stand Together, the Institute for Humane Studies, Cato Institute, Mercatus Center at George Mason University, Youth Entrepreneurs, Bill of Rights Institute, Market-Based Management Institute, Charles Koch Foundation and Charles Koch Institute.In recognition of Mr. Koch's business leadership and community involvement, he has received numerous honors and awards, including three honorary doctorates.Mr. Koch received a bachelor's degree in general engineering (1957) and two master's degrees in nuclear and chemical engineering (1958 and 1959, respectively) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.Charles Koch was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1935. He is devoted to his wife of 47 years, Liz, their two children, Elizabeth and Chase, and three grandchildren.
