I ran across this book in my high school library in 1974. I read it so many times I had it memorized for the most part but I never officially checked it out for fear of being accused of actually doing drugs. I understand how cynical a person could be of Go Ask Alice reading it for the first time these days because they can never experience the same feelings of innocence(& near paranoia) teens experienced back then There were no pamphlets on drugs, you didn't go to your guidance counselor or pastor or join a club or ask ANY questions about drugs back then. It just wasn't DONE! your parents wouldve immediatlry been notified, everyone in town would know what you'd done & no other kid would be allowed to speak to you. Your dad wouldve quit his job, sold the house & moved your entire family 5 states away & grounded you for life. Looking back, yes, I think G.A.A. was written to scare kids away from drugs. It didn't stop me but it delayed me by at least a year.

Lorri Button (LoLo)
I think I was so messed up when I stumbled onto this during my awakening and distorting preconceived notions that aren't and weren't ever mine but now rule my ego and id. My pre menstruation psychosis actually used this as a manual for anorexia, binging, hallucinations of flesh. Thus is where I picked up the hitchhiking demons who became what was hers, abd now were my demons... Well I'm leaving them back here for you. :-)(-: Stay high on da LoLo

Go Ask Alice has LONG SINCE been exposed as a FREUD, written by someone probably trying scare kids from trying pot. I repeat; this is NOT A REAL LIFE story. Google the subject. It surprised me as well. I read the book twice while in middle and high school. Good read, but a total freud. That's why most of the writing seems to be adult-like.
