About this ebook

Minimalism is the thing that gets us past the things so we can make room for life's most important things—which actually aren't things at all.

At age 30, best friends Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus walked away from their six-figure corporate careers, jettisoned most of their material possessions, and started focusing on what's truly important.

In their debut book, Joshua & Ryan, authors of the popular website The Minimalists, explore their troubled pasts and descent into depression. Though they had achieved the American Dream, they worked ridiculous hours, wastefully spent money, and lived paycheck to paycheck. Instead of discovering their passions, they pacified themselves with ephemeral indulgences—which only led to more debt, depression, and discontent.

After a pair of life-changing events, Joshua & Ryan discovered minimalism, allowing them to eliminate their excess material things so they could focus on life's most important "things": health, relationships, passion, growth, and contribution.

I really enjoyed this book. As someone who reads a lot of self-help articles and always somehow ends up down the YouTube rabbit hole of "helpful" videos, this book was not only interesting, it was funny, inspiring, and unexpected. It's not a self-help book at all, but truly is what it says it is: a book about two best friends who learned a lot of lessons throughout their lives and found a way to share their story that somehow in one way or another ends up being a message that someone might need to hear. Highly recommend.💕

This book doesn't remind you to DO good (drop your collection off a cliff, quit your job for a better one, or be passive agressive about your new outlook on life) it reminds you to BE good (look at who you are beneath the surface, address your life in a meaningful way, and live with care, kindness and thoughtfulness). Go into this with a positive headspace where you can be open to new suggestions, and a new way of living. You won't regret it.

I should've read the book before I read all the articles in their blog and watched their Tedx. The information they gave was redundant for me. They repeated a lot of stuff so I ended up skimming through some of the book. Altogether, I love what these guys are about and they've inspired me to cut my clutter and minimize.
