While it starts a bit weak, I quickly found myself pulled into the world, caring about the characters who feel like they have depth deeper than their initial tropes and fascinated by the world that's gradually revealed to the reader without a typical exposition dump. I've been a fan of this author's prior works due to their subversion of common tropes, interesting and well thought out magic systems, and worlds/characters that feel alive. I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume revealing more about about the MCs background and the world in general.

Not bad. Not good. I got bored. If you are looking for a plot, there really isn't one. It's kind of halfway to a slice of life without that special something that makes slice of life so good. It doesn't commit to anything. That all being said, I didn't hate the writing or the characters. Just the distinct lack of substance, I suppose.

i really enjoyed how the conversations don't get broken up all the time with explanations. they'll talk about something not yet explained but in a context that doesn't make it confusing and explain later. it helps make things feel more realistic.
