This app has been created as a more modern version of the collection of Latvian folk songs Lakstīgala, in which the legendary choir conductor Roberts Zuika has collected the best-known Latvian folk songs.
Folk songs were sung by the legionnaires' choir conducted by Robert Zuikas during the war and also in later years in the camps of Latvian families living in the USA in Garezera. They are able to unite the Latvian people at any time, that is why Mr. Zuikas has always encouraged children and young people to learn folk songs so that the younger generations preserve the traditions of our nation.
With the help of benefactors, more than 25 thousand Lakstīgal books have been sent to Latvian schools and Latvian schools abroad. Last year, Mr. Zuikas expressed his wish that the collection of folk songs, Lakstīgala, would be available in a more suitable way for Latvian youth of the 21st century, namely on mobile phones. The project was created referring to this wish and to once again thank Mr. Zuikas for his contribution to the preservation and development of Latvian folklore and music.
