About this app

Jerboa is a app for Lemmy, a federated reddit alternative. Jerboa is made by Lemmy's developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever.

Lemmy is similar to sites like Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News: you subscribe to forums you're interested in, post links and discussions, then vote, and comment on them. Behind the scenes, it is very different; anyone can easily run a server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse.

Works great and was able to log into my lemmy.world instance. Has a few style options to choose from (I personally prefer the List view, very reminiscent of RIF) SOMETHING TO NOTE!!! when first installing it does not prompt you to login and finding the option is not obvious to the average user. You must press the top left menu button and press the words that say anonymous in order to start the login process. Hopefully this will be changed

Nice interface. There are some functionality issues though. First tapping a link to a community opens it in your browser rather than the app. Some links just crash the app entirely. Also it would be nice to be able to preview the url for links (like rif does) before opening them. Also opening a post, then going back takes you right back to the top of the feed. It would be nice if it could remember where you scrolled to. Anyway, it shows promise. Better than using browser.

Free and open source, always a plus. No ads. Somewhat customizable, but could be better. The killer feature of this app is that you can see both the upvotes and downvotes separately rather than being combined. Edit 2/2024: They partially took away that feature. Runs only okay. But this is enou-- hold up, why was I giving this app 5*? It's quite unreliable. The website works more often, because this app fails when DDG App Tracking protection fails. Plus, it's hard to log into your account.
