Sparrow Sounds

The house sparrow (Passer localus) is a bird of the family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. It is a small bird with a usual length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a mass of 24-39.5 g (0.85-1.39 oz). Females and young birds are colored pale brown and gray, and males have brighter black, white and brown markings. The house sparrow is one of about 25 species in the genus Passer, native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean basin, and much of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introduction into many areas, including parts of Australia, Africa and the Americas, makes it the most widely distributed wild bird.

The Sparrow makes a variety of sounds at various tones and loudness levels depending on how close it is to others of its kind. The Song Sparrow sings a loud 2-6 sentence song that usually begins with well-spaced notes and ends with a bang or trail. In between, the singer may add other notes with different rhythm and quality.
