Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

As a messenger app, it is great. However restoring from a backup is s disaster. I tried tu restore a backup with a verified correct passphrase, but Signal says the password is incorrect, which it isn't. I verified it. But this seems to be an issue if you look on the internet for 2 years already, but the devs at signal don't seem to prioritize this issue.

Love the simple look of the app and that it doesn't have any extra functions that make it feel more like a social media app instead of a messaging app. Also highly appreciate the option to hide stories. Transferring from my previously used 'messaging' app to this one was very seamless and I don't miss any features. Though I would like to be able to favourite messages so I can easily look them up if needed.

Good alternative messaging app. Has a desktop app as well, which is a big must for me personally. Has all the needed features for a messaging app: groups, replying to messages with emoticons, citing messages, editing messages. The only feature I miss would be to be able to favourite certain messages for myself in order to quickly and easily refer back to relevant information hidden in one of my many group apps.

★ We added a convenient shortcut to quickly lower your hand after you start speaking during a Signal group call. It's hands down our favorite feature in this release.
